Short Trail to a Beautiful Overlook of the Tennessee River Gorge
Visiting Chattanooga? Be sure to checkout this short, 1 mile trail to Julia Falls Overlook! Taking you through the lush forest to a breathtaking view of the Tennessee river gorge, this trail is sure to be a favorite.
The Trail- Tennessee River Gorge
This trail is located just under 20 minutes outside of Chattanooga or 2 hours from Atlanta. Park at the Signal Point Park and take the short trail downhill to the overlook. The overlook is the first area you’ll find views of the river, but continue on for an even better view! From here you’ll take the trail to the right then continue down this path.
This is a short but strenuous trail, atleast for the first part. Be prepared to climb down steep steps and scramble over and around rocks. There are a few side trails but stay on the white trail and you shouldn’t have any problems finding the overlook. First you will cross a wooden bridge, head down a few flights of stairs, then make your way down a rocky section. After this the trail flattens out and is an easier walk. You’ll go around a boulder then reunite with the trail, it doesn’t matter which way you go around it. Soon you will come to a clearing in the trees, walk along the large boulder to get astounding views of the river below. Look to the right and you’ll see Julia’s Waterfall running down the side of the rocks. Be careful not to get too close to the edge, as there are sheer drop offs here.
Other Trails at Signal Point Park
If want to keep hiking, continue on to either Middle Creek Bridge or Edwards Point Trail. They are both moderate trails providing stunning views of the river gorge and the surrounding mountains. If you’re ready to head back, just retrace your steps back to the parking lot.
