How to Visit Buzzards Roost Overlook at Fall Creek Falls

How to Get to Buzzard’s Roost
Buzzard’s Roost (also know as Millikan’s Overlook) is located along the scenic drive through Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee, just past the Fall Creek Falls overlook. You’ll find the parking area on the right side of the road.
Once you park, you’ll see a viewing platform right next to the parking lot. It’s an easy place to stop for a quick photo before continuing your drive. However, if you want to explore a little more and enjoy better views, there are two trails starting near the platform. One begins in front of the platform, while the other is to the right.
Buzzard’s Roost: Trail Option 1
The first trail is the more obvious of the two. You can access it from either side of the viewing platform, and it continues downhill in front of the overlook. It’s a short but steep walk down to some large boulders where you can take in the views.
The view isn’t completely unobstructed because of a few trees, but it’s still worth the short walk. If you look to your right, you’ll also notice a large rock formation sticking out from the surrounding landscape. This is where the second trail leads, offering another way to experience Buzzard’s Roost.
Buzzard’s Roost: Trail Option 2
The second trail is a little longer, but it’s still only about a 0.2-mile walk. You’ll find it to the right of the viewing platform, where the trail leads through the woods to a rocky overlook.
There are a few smaller side trails along the way, but follow the trail marked with blue blazes and you should be able to find your way. Once you reach the rocky area, you’ll have unobstructed views and plenty of space to explore and find a spot to take photos.
Be careful as you explore the rocks. There are several steep drop-offs, so keep your distance from the edges and watch your footing..
Buzzard’s Roost: Option 3 (No Hiking)
The third and easiest option is to enjoy the view from the viewing platform right next to the parking lot. This is a great choice if you’re short on time, don’t feel like hiking, or have already had a full day of exploring.
While the views aren’t as expansive as those from the rocky areas along the other two trails, the platform is still a lovely spot to take in the scenery. You could even bring your lunch and enjoy it here before continuing your drive through the park!
