Rock Island’s Twin Falls: A Short Hike Everyone will Love
Calling all waterfall enthusiasts! Nestled within Rock Island State Park, Twin Falls is not something to be missed! This short and scenic path is perfect for a refreshing escape, offering breathtaking views and a glimpse into Tennessee’s natural beauty.
Getting to Rock Island State Park
While Twin Falls is a part of Rock Island State Park, it’s not located in the actual park. Instead of putting the state park in your GPS, put Twin Falls in so you are taken directly there. If you are looking to check out the visit center, beach area, and campsites, head to the actual state park. If not the falls will be about 7 minutes away on a separate road.
There are two parking lots, the first one is the largest and where you should park if you plan on doing any hiking. The second parking lot is just past the initial one, and only has 3-5 parking spots. 3 of those spots are 15 minutes only and are used just to view the waterfall from this area.
Twin Falls Trail – Rock Island
There are two ways to get to Twin Falls. The first one is located to the right side of the 1st, larger parking lot. The trail will take you down a gravel path, through the woods, at the first intersection turn left to head to the falls. After a short walk down this path you’ll come to a few signs warning against swims to watch for fast rising water. Here you’ll head through the trees, making your way over rocks to get to the falls. There is no real path here, you just have to find the easiest way over the rocks.
The second way to the falls starts at the stairs at the second parking lot. Climb down the stairs then follow the trail through the woods. As you follow this trail you’ll see a few different side trails. These small trails will take you to the opening in the trees to get a good view of the falls. This is a good option if you don’t want to climb over the rocks. You can continue down this trail to the same signs mentioned above then make your way over the rocks to the waterfalls.
Thing to Know Before Visiting Rock Island State Park
Do not swim in this river!! There are signs warning against it all over but I still saw two people in the river here. The currents are crazy, as you can see just by looking at the river. If you are looking to swim, check out the upstream trail, which is located on the opposite side of the small second parking lot.
